Travel Medicine
Victoria Harbour Medical Centre is an accredited travel vaccination clinic.
We carry a stock of the most common travel vaccines including Yellow Fever.
Check-list:
- A consultation with a GP is required for all travel health and vaccine advice.
- For complex travel health advice please book a long (double) consultation with one of our GPs.
- We recommend you attend 6-8 weeks prior to intended travel to seek travel medicine and vaccination advice.
- Bring in a copy of your vaccination history and travel vaccination certificate book (yellow book) if you already have one.
- Medicare does not cover the cost of travel vaccinations, but this cost may be refundable in part from your private health insurance provider.
Consultation fees apply for all travel health appointments.
Vaccine administration is supported by our experienced nursing staff who are accredited nurse immunisers.
There is a very small chance of experiencing a reaction after receiving a vaccine. You will therefore be advised to stay for an observation period of 15-30 minutes in our waiting room following the administration of any vaccine in case further treatment is required.
All vaccinations administered are uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) which is a national register that records vaccines given to all people in Australia.

- Pre-travel health advice personalised to your travel itinerary
- Advice and prescription medication on how to prevent and manage traveller’s diarrhoea
- Advice on strategies to prevent insect-borne diseases including malaria chemo-prophylaxis
- Advice and prescription medication on how to minimise altitude sickness (mountain sickness)
- Provide you with care managing travellers illness after your return from travel
- Referral to specialist units for BCG (Tuberculosis-TB) vaccination, if required

Note that all childhood immunisations as outlined by the Australian Childhood Immunisation Schedule are free for Medicare card holders as the cost for these vaccinations are covered by the Australian Government.
